Meetings

When we talk in meetings, especially formal meetings, we use a number of standard phrases that are immediately understood as having a specific function. They act as flags that signal our intentions or opinions, and, if we are chairing a meeting, they are also used to control it. Understanding and being able to use this language is important in creating a professional image, both for yourself and for your company.

Seminar aims

To present the language that is commonly used in meetings and to practice it in a variety of situations. Additionally, the seminar will look at some of the factors that make a meeting successful and examine how different cultural attitudes affect meetings.

In order to maximize the time available, participants are provided with lists of the most important phrases and vocabulary before the seminar and asked to learn them. Experience has shown that the key to this seminar's success is finding interesting and situations where participants are motivated to discuss the issues and so use the language. We have developed a variety of attention grapping situations and case studies that fill this need. After each practice session individual and group feedback is given and at the end of the course each participant receives a detailed feedback sheet with suggestions for further self-study in areas of weakness. This positive feedback is particularly appreciated by the participants.
